FITS:
Fitted: Designed to follow the shape of the body, particularly in junior and women’s wear. This is often achieved through side seams that taper in at the waist.
Slouchy: A type of clothing that is soft and relatively unstructured. It is not tight fitting or rigid in shape.
Flowy: A lightweight fabric without bottom edge binding or characteristics that would make it clingy or stay close to the body.

Apparel Terminology 101 part 2: Fabric:
I hope you found the section on Construction interesting and educational and are now looking forward to our section on Fabrics.
FABRICS:
Polyester/cotton: A fabric blend of cotton and polyester that results in a soft blend of finder than traditional combed-cotton yarn. It oftentimes has improved drape as well as the inherent moisture-control properties of polyester.
Cotton/spandex: A blend made of mostly combed cotton and some spandex. This fabric features elasticity for better fit and recovery. These fabrics typically have a softer and smoother surface for printing, making the garment stronger and more durable for the wearer.
Rayon: a manufactured fiber, constructed from naturally occurring cellulose from plants and then spun into yarn. It is originally developed as a cheap alternative to silk and is now found in products where softness smooth surfaces, and luster are most important.
Modal: A type of rayon made exclusively from beechwood fibers. This type of fabric is soft, smooth, and breathes well. Similar to cotton, modal’s texture is cool to the touch and absorbent with ability to dye easily. It drapes well, keeps its shape, and is resistant to shrinkage, fading and appearance.
Tri-blends: A popular fabric, especially in retail-inspired styles, which is made of a blend of three different fibers. Common combinations include cotton/polyester/rayon or polyester/nylon/spandex. These compositions tent to lend a softness and flattering drape, along with a heathered appearance.
Slub: A newer type of fabric, slub has an irregular appearance caused by uneven thickness in the warp of the thread.
Garment dyed: This is apparel dyed in garment form rather than in raw fabric form. This results in a unique soft, lived-in look.

Welcome to Apparel Terminology 101.
This will consist of 3 sections starting with Construction in section 1.
Fabrics in section 2 and Fits in section 3.
CONSTRUCTION:
Singles: This indicates the diameter and weight of a year; the smaller the number, the thicker the yarn. It is usually expressed as 16/1 or 18/1. Higher singles are more popular now, such as 30 singles or 40 singles, because it is a finer thread with a tighter weave, which results in a softer and lighter T-shirt.
Should-to shoulder taping: Shoulder seams as well as the neck seam are covered by tape or binding. This helps reinforce the shoulder and neck seams to help strengthen these often weaker points and reduces separation.
Weight per ounce: This measures a fabric’s weight per square yard. For instance, a 6.1 oz shirt means the weight of the fabric is 6.1 oz per square yard of the fabric. In terms of current trends, the lighter the weight the better.
Knit/stitch density: The density of a shirt is measured by the number of courses-the fibers that run across-multiplied by the number of wales-the fibers that run lengthwise-in a square inch. This describes how fine the fabric is, which affects weight, strength, and printability.
Preshrunk: Contrary to common belief, preshrunk fabric is not washed and dried to shrink it. Instead it is the machine compaction of the fabric to remove space between stitches, condensing the fibers. This process does not guarantee that a shirt will not shrink but rather that most of the room for shrinkage has been removed.

Performance wear is the favorite choice of apparel for many people today. Typically made of polyester, sublimation is a popular choice for this market. Other basic printing processes simply apply the ink to the out surface area, which adheres to the garment by binding agents and heat. With sublimation, the ink is designed to absorb into the polymers of polyester for a more durable and long-lasting print. As we sublimate polyester, the sublimation does not crack, peel or fade when laundered because of the molecular bonding. In theory, the image should outlive the shirt or other apparel it is applied to.
It used to be that the color of fabric for sublimating was a problem but we have come a long way baby and now there is a lot more choices of color that can be sublimated. The retail market today of sublimated garments isn’t your basic white as in the past but showing many other color options.
I hope this answered any questions you may have had on what exactly sublimation is and if this something I should be considering for my next promotion. Sublimation can be done on apparel, bags, pillows and much more.
